Community Survey Launched

Eilean mo Ghaoil is commissioning an online survey to measure community opinion on the N4 “Spiorad na Mara” offshore development.

There has been, to date, no community survey to quantify support or opposition to this project, despite claims by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar that “there is strong community support for marine energy development around the islands”.

We have partnered with an experienced research consultant to conduct a clear, accessible and transparent online survey with the aim of obtaining an accurate picture of the community’s views on this major development.

We acknowledge the development will have wide ranging impacts across the whole island and its many residents but, for this exercise, respondents must reside in the areas between (and including) Ness to Uig, as these are the most directly impacted areas.

A robust and representative community voice has been notably missing from all meaningful discussions surrounding this development.

Planning permission was recently granted in principle by CnES for some of the related grid infrastructure, despite 860 objections being received from the public. The scale of opposition to these developments reflects significant community concern and the apparent disregard for this is unacceptable.

The survey can be accessed here:

Please respond truthfully and encourage anyone else who lives in these areas to respond as well, so we can capture a fair representation.

Your voice matters.
